Programming Contest Information
The Mid-South Conference of the Consortium for Computing
Sciences in Colleges is happy to announce that it is introducing
a parallel session for student papers. Following are the
guidelines.
- The author(s) and the presenter must be current undergraduate
students. A faculty member or other professional may be listed as
an advisor.
- The subject matter could be an undergraduate research project
or a sophisticated implementation project. The expectation for
quality of research will not be as high as that for professional
papers. But generally speaking, a survey of others' work would
not be accepted, nor would class projects unless the student has
gone beyond normal expectations for an extended project.
- The submission should follow the conference guidelines
http://www.ccsc-ms.org/pdfs/Manuscript_Formatting.pdf
with the following exceptions:
- The submission should not exceed one page total, including
the title and the list of authors.
- Since this is only one page long, you should not include
the one-paragraph overview ("Abstract") that would otherwise
precede the submission's body.
- Also omit the mailing address and telephone number of each
author. Include each author's institutional affiliation and
e-mail address.
- The advisor, if listed, should appear last among the
authors and should include the parenthesized word "advisor"
following the name.
- Questions should be referred to Dr. Carl Burch at
cburch@cburch.com.
- The submission deadline is 5:00pm, Friday, February 29, 2008.
To submit, e-mail the paper to ccsc@cburch.com.
Dr. Burch will acknowledge receipt of the paper.
- Papers will be selected by the program committee based
primarily on quality of the underlying work and the presentation.
However, some consideration will also be given to including a
diverse representation of colleges and universities. We
anticipate notifying authors of their acceptance or rejection by
March 14, 2008.
- Any acceptance is provisional, dependent on the presenter
registering for and presenting at the conference.
- The paper will not appear in the official conference
proceedings. Some copies of the submissions will be made
available informally at the conference.
- For student papers, the conference presentation will be 15
minutes in length. For those who wish to use it, we anticipate
that a Windows XP computer with Office 2007 and Internet access
will be available, attached to a projector.
